VITAMIN A play an important role to maintain normal vision. To understand better we must first be familiar with the structure of the eye.
Retina- is the sensory membrane that lines the inner surface of the back of the eyeball. It composed several layers, including one the contain specialized cell called photoreceptor.
The retina has two kind of cells.
1. Rod
2. Cone
Both rod and cones are sensitive to change in light but they react different and performe different functions. While rods are sensitive to dim light and the cone respond in bright light.
The rods contain a pigment called rhodopsin. Rhodopsin is formed by the combination of a specific form of vitamin A with protein. The amazing thing about rhodopsin is that it breaks down into its component when exposed to bright light. In the dark these components - - vitamin A and protein again combine to regenerate rhodopsin.

vitamin A found in animal origin and plant origin.
Animal origin like - butter , ghee, egg, fish, liver etc
Plant food like - mango, papaya, green leafy vegetables, etc.
storage of vitamin A - 90% store in liver, and 10% in other organ and glands like kidney, lungs, and adrenal gland.
